LAHORE - Finding foul play in the new delimitations carried out by the Punjab government ahead of the local elections, the PPP has sought more time to file objection petitions against the decisions of delimitation commissioners.
October 23rd is the last date to challenge any discrepancies in the new boundaries of Union Councils, Municipal Committees and other such Local Bodies.
“We want at least three to four-day extension in the last date for filing of objection petitions as the Opposition parties have not been given enough time to study the new scheme”, PPP’s central Punjab President Manzoor Wattoo told reporters after chairing a party meeting on local polls on Monday.
He was accompanied by Ch Manzoor, Tanvir Ashraf Kaira, Raja Riaz, Raja Aamir and other party men.
The PPP leader complained that objection petitions against the government decisions on new delimitations were not being entertained, and those admitted for hearing, were not being processed quickly.
He also alleged that delimitation commissioners were performing their duties under dictates of PML-N Parliamentarians while those not taking dictation were being implicated in false cases.
Wattoo disclosed that fake cases had been instituted against government functionaries in Pakpattan, Kasur and Gujranwala districts who had refused to oblige the PML-N Parliamentarians. Demanding of the govt to quash these cases, he appealed to the government officers not to comply with the illegal orders of the government.
Manzoor asked the government to announce holding of local elections on party basis before the court decision in this regard.
He challenged the PML-N to ask its candidates to contest the upcoming local polls under the election symbol of ‘lion’ and see what happens to them in the elections.
