Sources in the PTI said on Saturday the leaders who were put on party watch list include Bosans from Multan, Legharis from Dera Ghazi Khan, Qureshis from Sargodha, Awans from Khushab, Cheemas from Sialkot and Lahore leaders who joined party after quitting PML-Q.
The sources said PTI cheif Imran Khan made this decision on the advice of his old colleagues so that no political heavyweight could be allowed to man the party and everyone should follow the decipline. Khan expelled Sardar Ghulam Abbas from party central political strategy committee over manoeuvring, besides disqualifying him for the party ticket.
Confirming the action, PTI spokesman Shafqat Mehmood said no opportunist would be allowed to advance his personal agenda using party’s platform. “PTI would not let its workers to flout the party bylaws”.
He said Ghulam Abbas has been removed from party’s central political strategy as a warning to other ‘manoeuvrers’.
PTI central spokesman said that tickets for the next general elections would only be finalized by parliamentary board and no political heavyweight could press the party for promising tickets to them or their group members ahead of elections.
Sardar Ghulam Abbas when contacted denying contacts with other parties for a political bargain said, “It is a great injustice with me that the party’s high command expelled me from central political strategy committee without any hearing”.
He said, “Several political leaders of other parties meet me because of my political weight and popularity among my electorate but I never made a deal with any party against the PTI”.
The aggrieved PTI leader said that he never demanded anything from Imran Khan and he would take up the issue of his defamation with party’s top leadership.
