Workshop on disaster risk reduction

LAHORE – The Rescue-1122 Director General inaugurated the two-day workshop on Community Based Disaster Risk Reduction for the rescuers and safety officers and officials of district Lahore.
The Rescue-1122 Director General said: “The Service believes in saving lives and changing minds and to work for the development of safer communities through establishment of an effective system for emergency preparedness, response and prevention.”
He said after rescuing over 1.2 million victims of emergencies in all districts of Punjab with an average response time of seven minutes (partially true), the Service now intends to initiate the Community Based Disaster Risk Deduction and Safety Programs in collaboration with National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), and Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS).
The programme include appropriate community selection, rapport building and understanding the community, formation of community based organisation, conduct of vulnerability capacity assessment of the areas, planning and implementation of strategies and effective monitoring and evaluation.
The event was also attended by senior officers and officials of the Rescue 1122.
