LAHORE - The ‘Mola Jutt’ style of torturing the innocent citizens and police officers by the unruly lawyers has become order of the day on the premises of the Lahore High Court where the black coats on Tuesday not only thrashed an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) but also tore his uniform.
ASI Muhammad Khalid of Gujranawala Cantt Police Station said that he had appeared before the court of Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haq in a habeas corpus petition filed by Advocate Shahid Iqbal. As he came out of the court, the victim police officer said Shahid Iqbal and Advocate Muhammad Rafique along with 15 other lawyers attacked him and badly tortured him. However, the LHC security staff intervened and rescued him, the ASI added.
The ASI again appeared before Justice Muhammad Anwaarul Haq and informed him about the incident. The court summoned Lahore High Court Bar Association President Shehram Sarwar and directed him to take action against the lawyers involved in the incident.
Sarwar assured the court that the LHCBA would not support the unruly lawyers. No one would be allowed to disgrace the judiciary, he added. The ASI and lawyers filed complaints in Old Anarkali Police Station for the registration of cases against each other.
Meanwhile, Punjab Advocate General Ashtar Ausaf announced to hold an inquiry into the incident after suspending the licence of the lawyers.
During May, it is the fourth incident of thrashing in which the lawyers used kicks and fits against police officers. Earlier, the lawyers had beaten up police officers at sessions court’s premises in three separate incidents.
