In his message on the occasion of Anti-Dengue Day, the CM said that living nations learn from their past, to chalk out their future. He said that we should not be afraid of dengue, but fight against it. He said that we would ensure complete elimination of dengue virus with the effective steps of Punjab government and vigorous support of the people. He said that February 24 was being observed as anti-dengue day with a determination that all segments of the society would again step forward against dengue virus and ensure protection of human lives by utilizing all possible resources.
He said Punjab government had saved thousands of human lives by taking timely steps during last year in 2012. He said all segments of the society would have to play their effective role against dengue virus to defeat it through collective efforts. He said that we would have to change our social habits for prevention against dengue, while lethargy and careless attitude towards protection of human lives could never be imagined. He said that a vigorous campaign, based on preventive measures against dengue, was being launched, while it is the need of the hour that elected representatives and government machinery should further strengthen anti-dengue campaign with a missionary zeal, which can only be ensured by active participation of the common man.
The CM said government machinery had a leading role to play in anti-dengue campaign, while government officers should participate in it with a passion to serve the people. He said that seminars, walks and workshops had been arranged throughout Punjab, including Lahore, to raise awareness regarding anti-dengue steps. He said that the rate of dengue victims had been greatly reduced due to effective steps of the government and preventive measures taken by the people, as a result of which only few hundred persons became victim of dengue virus last years, out of which, with the grace of Almighty, no one died. He said anti-dengue campaign would continue with a missionary and patriotic zeal, during the current year as well. The CM appealed to all segments of the society to join hands to combat dengue virus, and vigorously support the governmental steps taken in this regard.
Preparations: The Punjab government will observe the Anti-Dengue Day on Sunday (today) to raise awareness about preventive measures to overcome the menace.
Government offices, medical colleges, educational institutions and hospitals will remain open and heads of attached departments will personally monitor programmes in this connection. The spokesman of Punjab Health Department has said that on the directive of Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, like previous year, anti-dengue day will be observed for advance eradication of dengue. According to the spokesman, officers of Health Department would personally monitor the steps taken for cleanliness and make necessary arrangements regarding disposal of excreta/ waste material, condemned articles, debris and old tyres which could cause storage of water and provide favourable breeding ground for mosquito and its larvae.
