Three cops are ‘bitten’, the rest are shy

LAHORE - Model Town Division (Ichra Police) have lost its three investigation officers, who dared to investigate a case of a German Shepherd dog stolen by a youth belonging to an elite family during the last couple of months.
The alleged robber happens to be classmate and close friend of Shan Khusro, son of a former Lahore Commissioner and current Additional Federal Secretary Khusro Pervaiz.
Police circles believed that Khusro Pervaiz was the man, who got suspended three investigating officers of the case namely Inspector Rana Naseem, ASI Ulfat, and ASI Riaz. Khusro Pervaiz has been currently posted in Ministry of Economic Affairs Division.
The German Pedigree dog of Punjab Deputy Secretary Fareed Ahmed was stolen by youth Hamza from GOR-III on Feb 22. As a result, the case (196/12) under sections 380 (theft) and 457 (trespass) was registered against unidentified accused person (s) on the statement of Mr Fareed, as the accused was yet to be traced out at that time. Afterwards, the police authorities continued suspending the investigation officer, who tried to investigate the case. “Respected Sir, may I have to mention the name of your son in sub-section of the FIR as you have phoned me several times during the investigation of this specific case,” quoting one of the suspended investigation officer, a source said while communicating with Khusro Pervaiz.
After that phone call, the investigation officer was suspended and currently no one is interested to investigate the case.
Deputy Secretary Fareed Ahmed settled in GOR-III some five months back, but he learnt through neighbours about a few boys of elite families, who were involved in robberies especially in theft cases of German shepherd dogs. The Deputy Secy had also a Pedigree German shepherd dog that was registered at Lahore Canal Club and German Shepherd Dogs Club, but unfortunately the dog was robbed around 5:00am on Feb 22. During preliminary interrogation, the Ichra police came to know that one Hamza, son of Professor Farkhanda of Kinnaird College, had robbed the dog. The Deputy Secretary had also recovered the dog one day before the day of incident from Hamza’s flat No-17, but the boy saved his skin by presenting a lame excuse of acquaintance with the dog. According to the circumstantial evidences collected from his car, like hairs of the dog and peace of cloths and tested from Forensic Laboratory, Hamza had robbed the dog and even he confessed to committing the crime before police investigators. Sources said police concerned also learnt that a gang comprising Akhlaq Bajwa, Riaz Rana, Aziz, Hamza and Shan was involved in stealing the German Shepherd dogs from the area.  But instead of awarding the investigation team, police authorities suspended Inspector Rana Naseem, ASI Ulfat, and ASI Riaz, as they had dared to investigate the case, by working on scientific lines.
The sources believe that DIG (investigation) Ali Aamir Malik and Model Town (Investigations) SP Shafih Dogar are fully aware of the developments but none of them can dare to speak before Federal Secretary Khusro Pervaiz.
The sources further said that each time Khusro Pervaiz directed the former CCPO Lahore Ahmed Raza Tahir to suspend the investigation officer deployed at Ichra police station.
It may be noted here, German Pedigree dogs are widely nourished at homes as pets across the world including elite families herein Pakistan.
These families use their pets as players in different type of games. Similarly, the dogs of rare genre are always registered in various prominent clubs. German Shepherd Dogs Club Manager Aamir Malik said some four to five cases of Pedigree dogs theft have been reported in GOR-I, II, and III so far. He said irrespective the status and background, strict departmental action should be initiated against those, who are robbing the dogs.
