RE - Cops riding on a police van fled away after hitting a motorcycle in Shadman Crossing, leaving a 20-year-old college girl and her brother in critical condition, eyewitnesses said on Monday.
They said the policemen violating the traffic signal tried to cross the Jail Road when the police van (LWO-8379) hit a motorcycle due to over speeding in the middle of Shadman Crossing.
The motorcyclist identified as Ahmad Raza, student of BCom at the Punjab College was on his way home after picking his sister Amna Shahid from Kinnaird College when the police van hit his two-wheeler.
The policemen tried to cross the Jail Road by jumping the traffic signal in sheer violation of the traffic rules, a motorist said, adding, the cops fled away from the scene within no time. The passersby and motorists shifted the injured college students to the Services Hospital in critical condition.
Several motorists tried to chase the police van but the policemen managed to escape from the scene. Neither the Shadman police reach the spot nor register any case against the policemen despite the eyewitnesses made several calls at the emergency police (Rescue-15) and disclosed the happening. The injured were later shifted to the Doctors Hospital, where their condition as reported to be critical till filing of this report.
Meanwhile, a cyclist was killed when a speedy car bumped into his two-wheeler in Nolakha police vicinity. The deceased identified as Ashraf Ahmed, resident of Shahdra Town, sustained multiple injuries and died on the spot. The driver along with the car managed to flee the scene. The police are investigating. Died: A 28-year-old youth died under mysterious circumstances in Baghbanpura area, police said on Monday. The police investigators said Rana Naveed, took liquor in excessive quantity along with his friends Ali Raza and Shahid in Kotli Pir Abdul Rehman locality.
When his condition got deteriorated, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The police have removed the body to the morgue for an autopsy. The police have also registered a murder case on the complaint of brother of the deceased and are investigating.
