Govt utilising resources to reduce pollution: Secy

LAHORE – A four members delegation headed by Aaron Saizberg, Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES) Washington, called on Secretary Environment Protection Department (EPD) Punjab Saeed Wahlah on Wednesday to discuss water and sanitation issues in the province.
Other members include Shelley Saxen, Economic Officer US Embassy Islamabad, Frank P Talluto, Economic Officer US Consulate Lahore. Additional Secretary Khalid Farooq Akbar, Director EIA Naseem-ur-Rehman Shah and Director P&C Shahid were also present.
During the meeting, Secretary Environment informed the delegation about present state of water and sanitation in all the districts of Punjab. He said that the Punjab government was utilizing all its resources to decrease water pollution and treatment plants have also been installed in this regard.
He said that EPD has not enough manpower and resources but despite that the department has been trying its best to control the water pollution. He said that installation of treatment plants was the first priority and Water and Sanitation Agency has been directed to complete the survey. He further added that the feasibility reports of most of the treatments plants have been completed.
