LAHORE A 35-year-old police Sub-Inspector was shot dead by his opponents during broad daylight here in Badami Bagh area on Tuesday, police sources said. Naveed Bhatti, riding on a motorcycle, was on his way to his office in the Lower Mall police station when gunmen intercepted him near Badami Bagh police station and opened straight fire at him.
The father of three died on the spot while the killers fled away from the crime scene. Police said that the killers had old enmity with the deceased. A good number of family members of the deceased gathered on the spot and staged strong protest demonstration against the police by putting the dead body in the middle of the road, creating worst traffic mess in the busy area. Later, heavy police contingents reached the spot and managed to disperse the protesters after holding a series of negotiations with them. Earlier one brother and a nephew of the deceased had also been killed by their rivals.
Investigators said that the Kifal Bhatti, brother of the deceased, had developed enmity with his in-laws after killing his father-in-law. Kifal was freed by the court after remaining in the jail for five years. The police have registered the murder case against nine people including Zeeshan Bhatti, Shahbaz and Billo Bhatti on the complaint of Arslan Bhatti, nephew of the deceased.
