LAHORE – Like other parts of the province, the City remained in the grip of severe heat wave on Monday with mercury touching 43 degree Celsius mark for the first time during the ongoing summer.
Since no significant rain-giving system is approaching the country during the ongoing week, experts have predicted further increase in the intensity of heat wave over the plains of the province including the City.  Noor Pur Thal remained the hottest place in the province where mercury rose as high as 46 C.
On Monday, maximum and minimum temperature in the City was recorded 43 C and 27 C, respectively. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded 31 per cent which decreased to 22 per cent in the evening.
People avoided unnecessarily coming out of houses at noon and in the afternoon, decreasing traffic on otherwise busy arteries. Lahore canal as usual attracted huge number of people, including women and children.
Not only youth, but also elderly people were seen bathing in canal water. At certain places, even women were seen beating the heat by taking a dip in the canal water.
According to the experts, continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. Local meteorological department has forecast mainly hot and dry weather for most parts of the country including the City during the ongoing week. However, partly cloudy weather is expected at isolated places of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir.
