Khulay Aasmaan Kay Neechay faces Bollywood at box office

June 30, 2008

LAHO RE - Six years after the immensely successful 'Yeh Dil Aap Ka Hua' Jawed Sheikh is all set to release his next film 'Khulay Asmaan Kay Neechay' in cinemas across Pakistan on July 4. But this time he is facing tough competition from a Bollywood movie 'Love story 2050', which is also schedule for release here on the same date.   Sheikh is disturbed over the situation emerging and has appealed for promotion of pure 'Pakistani product'. Talking to The Nation on Sunday he said it was not fair that an Indian movie is being released in the country on the same date. "I am going to move an application to the Federal Ministry of Culture to stop the exhibition of film 'Love story 2050'. I am not against exhibition of Indian movies in Pakistan. But the authorities concerned should keep in mind the promotion of local film industry as well. There should at least be a gap of two weeks so that the local movie is given enough time at the box office," Sheikh maintained. He said it was not the Pakistan Film Censor Board and the Federal Ministry of Culture that should have kept the promotion of Pakistani film in mind but it was also the distributor who should have shown enough nationalism by not releasing the film at the same time. "I am positive the culture ministry would take action and stop the exhibition of this Bollywood film for at least two weeks. 'Khulay Asmaan Kay Neechay' is a good movie and has big budget considering it is a Pakistani movie. But you cannot compare that with the Bollywood movies that have budget of Rs 250 million to Rs 300 million on the average. It is good that Indian movies are now being exhibited here but the local product should be given preference," Sheikh was of the view. 'Khulay Asmaan Kay Neechay' has been issued the censor certificate but 'Love story 2050' has yet to clear censors. Zafar Ali of the Big Screen Entertainment Co that is releasing the film is optimist that 'Love story 2050' will be cleared by censors in time for exhibition on July 4. "We have advertised in the media and there is no way that its exhibition can be stopped," he said. 'Khulay Asmaan Kay Neechay' stars Sana and Saleem Sheikh along with Humayun Saeed, Nadeem, Bahroz Sabswari and Javed Sheikh. Film is reportedly based on a love story between a Pakistani guy (played by Humayun Saeed) and an Indian girl (played by Sana). The film has been shot in Australia, UAE, India and Pakistan. The story revolves around a young man who marries a girl of his choice against the wishes of his family. His father had wanted him to marry the daughter of his family member and she too, in all her innocence has lived this dream. Over emotional turmoil, family drama and poignant scenes, true love triumphs over all. The film has strong emotional, moralistic and family values. The music launch of 'Khulay Asmaan Kay Neechay' would be held in Karachi on Monday (today). Film and TV stars as well as pop stars like Fakhir will attend the launching, which will be conducted by Moin Akhtar. Premiere of the film would be held on July 3. 'Love Story 2050' is a futuristic/sci-fi Bollywood film starring producer Pammi Baweja and director Harry Baweja's son Harman Baweja and Priyanka Chopra. It is the debut film of Harman Baweja and was shot in Adelaide, Australia. It is Bollywood's first futuristic film and is expected to be full of special effects. Anu Malik is the music director while Javed Akhtar is the lyricist for the film.
