Opinion polls no yardstick to judge political parties: Elahi

LAHORE – Snubbing an opinion poll about the growing popularity of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) Punjab President and Deputy Prime Minister Pervaiz Elahi claimed on Saturday that the popularity of political parties could not be judged through such a survey.
“The popularity of political parties can only be judged through public support in elections. People’s votes on the basis of performance determine the status of political parties, not opinion polls,” the PML-N’s sworn enemy said in a statement.
“Had the PML-N served the people of Punjab, it would not have needed such a survey,” he said, pointing an accusing finger at the Punjab government’s projects, including Sasti Roti Scheme, Ashiana Housing Schemes, Laptop Scheme, Daanish School System and Bus Rapid Transit Project.
Elahi said the PML-Q secured a record number of votes in the 2008 general elections in Punjab. He also claimed that his government carried out a record number of development projects during its term in office.
