Bus terminal at GCU

Why do a thing where a violent reaction is expected, Mr Chief Minister, the “Khadim-e-Aala” of Punjab is all out to serve people of Punjab. He is fully dedicated to this cause and works round the clock to provide facilities to the people of Punjab. He is planning and doing most of the things single handedly. To economise, he is keeping about a dozen portfolios of ministers to himself. Lately in cooperation with Turkey, he has tried to solve transport problem of Lahorites by introducing Rapid Mass Transit Bus Service in Lahore at the cost of $2.5 Billions. This would initially run from Kahna to Shahdara on ferozepur road via Mozang chungi, Secretariat, District Courts and Data Durbar with conveniently located stops or terminals.

In this great venture, TEPA has planned a terminal in Logia Gardens in the vicinity of Government College University without caring for the historical background of this great Alma Mater which is about 150 years old. This institute has produced great scholars, scientists, engineers, generals and sportsmen to include Allama Iqbal, Faiz Ahmed Faiz, Nobel laureate Dr Abdus Salam and the architect of our Nuclear Bomb Dr Samar Mubarakmand. By having a Bus terminal of LRMT inside this great institution would definitely spoil the beauty and historical value of this place. It would give a look of general bus stand where hundreds of people would embark or disembark all the time thereby disturbing the peace of students and the teaching faculty.
The Khadim-e-Aala is requested to have pity on this historical Institution and look for an alternate place for the terminal. It could be located either around Nasir Bagh or at the far end of District courts. Any one who has association with this college (now university) would never approve of this location.
MUHAMMAD AZHAR KHWAJA,
Lahore , June30.
