This is with reference to credit card facility being offered by the banks. A few months ago, I utilised the services of a private bank on the repeated request of the bank’s representative. The next month they sent me a bill of more than Rs300 as ‘welcome tax’. I requested the bank authorities to wave off such fee but they sent me another bill, including late fee charges of Rs1000. I immediately contacted the bank authorities on telephone and also sent my credit card cut into four pieces to their head office, requesting them to cancel the card. But they are still sending late fee charges which have reached more than Rs6,000. I requested the bank time and again on its helpline to cancel the card and also deposited the initial fee but all in vain. If I do not need their services then they cannot force me to do so. Moreover, I never used the card. I personally believe that most banks in our country are fleecing people in the name of credit card facility and trapping simpletons to deprive them of their hard-earned money. I request the State Bank of Pakistan and Banking Ombudsman to intervene and safeguard the rights of the people who fall victim to credit cards.
