Trailers of upcoming movie “Last Resort” are already aired and these are available on websites like YouTube. Story of the movie revolves around the crew of submarine who are ordered to launch an atomic attack on Pakistan. Their refusal to this order from US govt. unfolds a series of dramatic events. Registering a comment without even watching the movie is unfair but my concern is nothing to do with acting skills of artists, neither I am bothered about direction of the movie; the aspect of the movie I want to comment on is the plot. If you take a look at the Hollywood movies in 1960’s and 1970’s, every negative thing was attributed to Russians. USSR was portrayed as the biggest evil on the planet earth ever existed. Afghans were labeled as freedom fighters and leaders of Afghan war were used as an analogy to Che Guevara. The advent of US “war of terror” slowly and gradually replaced the evil character of Russians with Afghans where OBL and Al-Qaida was presented as the biggest threat to humanity. Recent movie “Ozombie” is a clear evidence of this claim.
Pakistan media is so much free that songs like “Alu Anday” had to be launched on YouTube because artists got a big NO from media about playing this song on their “free” channels. Exhibitions of causalities because of drone attacks had to be staged in London because “free” media of Pakistan refused to cover it. Inauguration ceremony of the book, Military Incorporated by Ayesha Siddiqa, was sabotaged and destroyed by “unknown” miscreants and “free” media was unable to report it.
Most of Pakistanis might not like the movie “Last Resort”, but I think it’s a blessing in disguise. It shows us the real worth of Pakistan for US. It also depicts the mindset of their society and their feelings towards Pakistan. I propose that this movie should be aired on PTV, special shows should be arranged on big screens in places like National Stadium and Gaddafi Stadium. Cinemas should be obliged to screen this movie for free. It should be translated to Urdu, Punjabi, Sindhi, Balochi, Saraiki etc, so people from all ethnic backgrounds can understand it. I like to thank Hollywood for such a favor to the people of Pakistan. USA may or may not be our enemy, but USA looks at Pakistan as an enemy. Thank you Hollywood!
