Recently, a cabinet meeting approved a bill to amend the contempt of court law. This move by the cabinet may prove a wrong decision in future, for there is already a cold war between the two institutions. The Supreme Court Bar Association’s President Yasin Azad called the act mala fide. He is right in saying this. At the time when a case regarding the parliamentarians’ dual nationality is in the apex court, this step taken by the cabinet seems retaliatory. If not retaliation, it might set some new hurdles in the way of a normalisation of relations between the judiciary and the executive.
