Test case for ECP

July 24, 2012

Abdul Qadir Gilani has won, though by a margin narrower than claimed which should be an eye opener for the PPP. Since it was the first election under the new set of rules, the CEC must take strict account of whether its rules were abided by the contestants in toto or not. If not, the results must be declared null and void. It is a test case for the CEC and important to set a precedence for all to follow in future. It is common knowledge that rules are framed and formulated but rarely implemented, with the result that they just become a mockery of the rules and are flouted without any fear of impunity by those in power. Hope the CEC is listening in its own interest to establish its authority and deliver as expected of it – fair and transparent elections?
