The Sindh government after bothering the citizens for almost two weeks lifts the ban on pillion riding in Karachi. The ban was imposed when target killings intensified, assuming that this ban would bring some order on the roads. The authorities forget that they are creating a nuisance for thousands of commuters who travel on motorcycles everyday for work, education and various other things. It merely adds to the problems of the citizens and does not result in anything positive. This ban is nothing more than a punishment for the citizenry and an example of the state’s failure to provide either security or a viable alternative to pillion riding.
I appeal to the concerned department that instead of banning pillion riding and troubling innocent citizens, some other measure should be taken to eradicate the underlying problems.
