Noble aim gone wrong

Initially, the Benazir Income Support Scheme was started with a very noble aim of providing a fixed amount to people with very low or no income. The scheme runs into billions yet it is not helping the poverty-stricken people. Long queues are formed in the scorching heat in front of the scheme’s offices but at the end of the day most of those standing in lines go home empty-handed. It is being said that those responsible for running the scheme choose their own kith and kin or party workers, instead of the poor and deserving, for distributing the money.

To make sure that only deserving individuals receive their rightful share the money should be distributed by the government’s revenue department. A committee consisting of a revenue official and three honest citizens having no political affiliation should be formed to scrutinise applications of candidates in this regard.
