Arsalan case: SC stops JIT from further inquiry

ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Tuesday stopped joint investigation team from further inquiry into the financial deal between Malik Riaz and Arsalan Iftikhar in view of court’s CCTV footage, in which one of the JIT member, Faisal Memon, SSP Rural Islamabad, was shown sticking close to Malik Riaz during his first appearance before the bench on June 12.

The court directed secretary interior and SSP Rural Faisal Memon to submit their reports about the matter on August 2. The court directed the secretary interior to appear before the court with explanation why security of the Supreme Court was breached on the appearance of Malik Riaz. Justice Jawwad said a month ago a letter was sent to secretary interior in this regard but he did not respond. The court also rejected NAB’s plea to constitute a larger bench for hearing of the case. A two-member bench comprising Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain heard a review petition filed by counsel for son of the Chief Justice against the court’s June 14 remarks that attorney general made an attempt to influence the judicial process.
PG NAB said SC was not a forum to hear the allegations of petitioner through review petition.
The case was adjourned till August 2.
