KARACHI - Despite tall claims of wildlife department, poultry experts and provincial government of solid steps to overcome rani khait disease causing deaths of peacocks, the precious birds continued to be affected as four more peacocks died on Tuesday.According to details, dreadful rani khait continued to claim lives of costly peacocks as authorities have not been able to completely overcome the disease. With death of four more peacocks in Mitthi area of Tharparkar on Tuesday, 23-day death toll has mounted to 124.Livestock and poultry experts were of the opinion that all efforts were being made to overcome the disease and it was hoped that situation would improve in next few days. Meanwhile, Sindh Minister for Environment Shaikh Muhammad Afzal has said that peacocks are beauty of Thar and they should be cured immediately. He further said that peacocks are dying of ‘rani khet’ disease which is now spreading to other districts of Sindh . He appealed the authorities of wildlife department to take immediate and effective steps for overcoming that disease.Afzal also directed the officers of Environment Department for taking an active part with wildlife department as the death of peacocks would be stopped through medical treatment. A team from Environment Department visited Thar and Mirpurkhas on the directives of Environment Minister.He further said that the Environment Department is ready to cooperate with the Wildlife Department.
