FAISALABAD - A great example of the ‘beauty of democracy’ has surfaced in Faisalabad, where Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) General Manager (GM) Sabghatullah Suri and Chief Operation Officer (COO) Akram Arian were suspended on the directives of President Asif Ali Zardari for disconnecting the gas connection of the textile mill of Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar, located in Jhang.
The sources added that President Zardari himself issued the directives for strict action against the top regional officials the utility.
The gas connections of Crescent Textile Mills and Masood Textile were also disconnected on violating the load management schedule, which is a routine action.
The sources said the Crescent Textile Mill, also owned by Hina’s husband, is also a defaulter of Wapda and required to pay millions of rupees, but the amount of has rescheduled through small monthly instalments of RS.3, 000. Thus, the payment process is expected to complete in a ‘century’.
The sources alleged that the Galaxy Textile was also involved in gas theft through meter tempering, but no action had so far been taken in this regard. However, it is quite strange that the gas connection of the Galaxy Textile has been restored.
It was also learnt that after the scam, Federal Minister for Petroleum and Natural Resources Dr Asim Hussain, who was in Lahore, reviewed the situation.
