ISLAMABAD - The Islamabad High Court on Thursday cancelled the new declaration of daily Dunya and admitted a petition against cancellation of the old Dunya declaration. Justice Riaz Ahmad Khan conducted the hearing on the plea, filed by Abdul Samad Khan.
Through his counsel Ch Waqas Zameer, the petitioner submitted that his brother, Zahid Khan, had been publishing Dunya newspaper from Islamabad since the past many years. He stated the Islamabad deputy commissioner issued the declaration for Dunya newspaper to Mian Aamir Mehmood without informing them.
The petitioner argued that the deputy commissioner could not annul their declaration according to the Newspapers, News Agencies and Book Registration Ordinance, 2002. He submitted that because the application which Mehmood had submitted to the deputy commissioner carried their (petitioner and his brother) wrong address, the notice could not reach them. Based on this, the applicant added, their declaration was cancelled and after a few days Mian Aamir Mehmood was issued a new declaration instead.
