Tributes paid to TheNation’s slain staffer

SWAT – The 5th death anniversary of TheNation’s slain staffer and veteran journalist Siraj ud Din (Shaheed) was observed here on Thursday at his residency Fizaghat Mingora.

He was martyred five years ago in a suicide attack when he was attending the funeral congregation of DSP Javed Iqbal on February 29, 2008. A large number of journalists, culturists, government officials, relatives, friends and residents participated in the ceremony for Siraj, who worked as a freelance reporter for TheNation.
On the occasion, they expressed their heartfelt sympathies with the members of the bereaved family, the journalist community and people of Swat also assured that the extremists involved in such type of inhuman activities will no more remain at large and would be brought to justice.
Local journalists’ relatives and elders of the region paid homage to Siraj Uddin (Shaheed), which also deserves due commendation and the entire journalists fraternity feel proud on its courageous colleague who rendered his life for peace in the region.
They lauded the dedicated service of Siraj ud Din as a journalist he rendered for 23 years. They prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and courage to the bereaved family to bear this irreparable loss with patience.
In his remarks, Siraj’s elder son, Asif Ali, lamented the governments for not fulfilling the pledges made to his family after the demise of his father. He sought financial support and government job, which was announced by the then Prime Minister to the bereaved family.
