KARACHI - Local leaders among three workers of ANP were gunned down and four others were wounded in a targeted attack on late Wednesday evening.
The deceased were identified as Saleem Khan, Abid Khan, Sajid and injured as Abul Razzaq, Fahim, Niaz Yosufzai and Arif.
According to initial report, SHO said the ANP workers were standing near their party’s office in Sherpao Colony when they came under attack. He while quoting the witnesses accounts said that at least six armed men on three motorbikes came close to the victims and open indiscriminate fire on them. Resultantly, seven ANP activists were injured. The injured activists were taken to nearest private hospital where Saleem, Sajid and Abid succumbed to their injuries. The bodies and injured were later moved to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for autopsy and treatment.
SHO said the culprits used 9MM pistols in the attack, adding that all the victims were shots multiple times. To a question, the officer said the police were investigating that whether the Taliban were behind the incident or not. Further investigations were underway. Following the incident routine and business activities were suspended while extra contingent of security forces were deployed in the area to avoid any untoward incident.
ANP spokesperson said Saleem Khan was the president of ANP Ward of Sherpao Colony, while the injured Niaz Khan was the coordinator of ANP’s Member Provincial Assembly, Aman Ullah Marwat. He said that the culprits targeted the ANP men shortly after they came outside the office after holding a party’s meeting.
He condemned the attack on parties office and its men and demanded the government to arrest and punish the culprits.
No case had been registered till the filing of the report.
