Seven more killed in Karachi violence

KARACHI - At least seven people were killed in separate acts of violence in different parts of metropolis here on Sunday.
A barber was gunned down inside his shop situated near Anda Mor, North Karachi within the limits of Sir Syed police station. The deceased was identified as 27-year-old Mohammad Sultan, son of Mukhtiar. DSP Tahir Khan said that at least two armed men riding a motorcycle barged into the victim’s shop and opened indiscriminate firing at him. He was shot multiple times and died at the spot. His body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsy. The police officer said that the victim had no affiliation with any political or religious organisation and it seems that he was killed over personal enmity.
Noman, 26, son of Ejaz was gunned down and two of his friends, namely Kashif Mazhar and Kashif Naseer were wounded when two unidentified armed men riding a motorcycle sprayed them with bullets while they were sitting outside their homes in North Karachi within the limits of Surjani police station. Police officials said that the victims were not affiliated with any political or religious party and the initial investigation suggests that the incident occurred over personal enmity.
The bodies of the two young men were found from Bashir Chowk near Sindhi Hotel within the limits of New Karachi Industrial Area police station. The victims have yet to be identified. According to DSP Mohammad Akhtar, both the victims were shot multiple times and the initial investigation suggests that unidentified culprits after kidnapping the victims shot and killed them and dumped their bodies at an abandoned place. He said that the motive behind the incident could be ascertained after the identification of the victims. Their bodies were moved to Edhi morgue, Sohrab Goth while the police have registered a case against unidentified persons.
Shahzad Khan, 26, son of Tahir Khan was found dead within the limits of Model Colony police station. Police officials said that the deceased was shot twice in his upper torso. They said that they were seeking the family of the victim to ascertain the motive behind the incident.
A young man yet to be identified was found dead from Orangi Town within Iqbal Market police precincts. SHO Sabir Hussain said that victim’s hands and legs were tied with the rope while he was also shot twice, adding that unidentified culprits dumped his body at the abandoned place after killing him at another place while further investigation was underway.
Mohammad Hussain, son of Talib was killed inside his house in Kauser Niazi Colony, North Nazimabad. Police officials said that the victim’s brother-in-law Shahzad stabbed the victim with knife inside his house over family dispute. They said that the accused managed to escape from the scene while the raids for his arrest were being conducted.
Meanwhile, law enforcement agencies claimed to have apprehended over 30 suspects including alleged target killers during different targeted operations on Sunday.

About 33 suspects including alleged target killers were apprehended during separate targeted operations in different parts of the city. About 20 suspects were taken into the custody during targeted operations conducted by Rangers at Patel Para, Ghas Mandi and Sharafi Goth localities. According to Rangers officials, the weapons and liquors were also recovered from their possession while further investigation was underway.
In another targeted operation in 100-Quarters in Baldia Town, Rangers and police in a joint operation apprehended at least 12 suspects. According to police officials, about half a dozen target killers were also among the detainees who were being questioned by shifting into the undisclosed location. They said that the operation was conducted on a tip-off about presence of the suspected target killers and criminals. About 28 weapons of different calibres were also recovered from their possession, they added. An alleged target killer identified as Raees was apprehended from Surjani area. According to police officials, the suspect was affiliated with a political party but the police did not disclose his political affiliation. They said that he was involved in various cases of target killing.
