Islamabad/WAZIRISTAN - At least four suspected militants were killed when a US drone targeted a compound in North Waziristan Agency in the wee hours of Monday.
The unmanned US drone fired at least two missiles at a compound allegedly being used by militants in Datta Khel area of Miranshah, the headquarters of North Waziristan Agency, sources said.
The targeted house was completely destroyed in the strike, it was the second US drone attack in less than 24 hours after another drone strike killed six suspected militants in the same tribal agency.
Sources said that at least four suspected militants were killed in the attack. However, it was unclear with which militant group they were affiliated.
Meanwhile, Pakistan has strongly condemned the US drone strike in North Waziristan Agency.
Spokesman Aizaz Ahmed Chaudhry in a statement said said these unilateral strikes are a violation of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He said Pakistan has repeatedly emphasised the importance of bringing an immediate end to drone strikes. He said Pakistan has consistently maintained that drone strikes are counter-productive‚ entail loss of innocent civilian lives and have human rights and humanitarian implications.
He said such strikes also set dangerous precedents in the inter-state relations.
The spokesman said that these drone strikes have a negative impact on the mutual desire of both countries to forge a cordial and cooperative relationship and to ensure peace and stability in the region.
