MANDI BAHAUDDIN - The police claimed to have killed a notorious dacoit along with his accomplice in a shootout here the other night.  According to DPO Amir Taimur, three armed bandits, riding a motorcycle, snatched a bike and cash amounting to Rs40,000 from one Amir Sohail, a resident of Kuthala Sheikhan in front of Civil Hospital. On getting information, a City Police team led by SHO Shafqat Butt launched a hunt for the culprits and intercepted them at the backside of Government Degree College. Meanwhile, the bandits opened fire on the police personnel which was retaliated. A shootout erupted which lasted for sometime as a result of which two bandits identified as Shehzad alias Shahid, son of Manzoor Ahmed and Ijaz Ahmed, son of Muhammad Nazir, both residents of Gujranwala were killed. While their accomplice managed to flee the scene. The police recovered the stolen motorcycle, Rs55,000, a 44-bore rifle and 30-bore pistol from the scene. The dead bodies were dispatched to their native village after autopsy at DHQ Hospital.

The DPO claimed that Shahid was wanted in several criminal cases including cases of duel murder. The accused was declared a proclaimed offender and Rs1 million had been fixed on him as head money.
