Farmers, traders team up against outages

MANDI BAHAUDDIN - Farmers with cooperation of other local organizations including traders, Kissan Board took out a rally in protest against the prolonged power loadshedding and unprecedented increase in the tariff of electricity.

The rally started from Paherianwali Adda, reached Mandi Bahauddin after passing through Phalia and Mangat areas. The rally was led by District Kissan Board Sufi Riaz Warriach. While addressing the rally, the farmers leaders said that the ruling alliance consisted of corrupt leaders were constantly protecting corruption of each other. Amide full-throated sloganeering, they pointed out that the rulers were creating new scandals every day to divert attention from the real issues. They mentioned that there was no scarcity of electricity if all IPPs worked to their capacity. It is unfortunate that the government departments are not paying electricity bills, besides, electricity is stolen by “holy cows” with connivance of the officials concerned and the price of electricity pilferage is added to the electricity bills of poor consumers mostly belonging to Punjab,” they claimed.
They warned that if their demands were not heard, farmers would besiege local parliamentarians’ residences and observed strike in front of Parliament House.
