OKARA - Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo said that the National Assembly, by electing Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as prime minister shattered the dreams of goosy and opportunist politicians.

He was addressing a ceremony organised under Waseela-e-Haq of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) wherein assistance cheques amounting to Rs4 million were distributed among 24 deserving women. The federal minister said some politicians had dreamt the end of the tenure of the present government after Supreme Court’s ruling against former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani.
But the National Assembly ruined all such dreams by electing Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as prime minister by two-thirds majority,” Wattoo noted.
The Federal minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan said the so-called national leaders fled abroad fearing of cases and jails, but Pakistan People’s Party was the custodian of democratic system, constitution and the people.
Manzoor Wattoo pointed out that Shaheed Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for democracy, supremacy of the constitution and poor people, adding that she was prevented from returning Pakistan but instead of staying in exile, she fought the case for the judiciary and poor people by confronting a dictator.
He said Shaheed Benazir Bhutto got status of a martyr and was asleep in peace in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh but she left behind her a program for the welfare of poor women of the country. 
He said millions of families were benefiting from the programme.
In Depalpur Tehsil alone, about 14,000 families are getting stipends, while another 20,000 families are being included in the program and payments will be made to them within the next two months, he observed.
Before Manzoor Wattoo’s address, Divisional Director BISP, Muhammad Irfan and Assistant Director, Depalpur, Mian Hassan Mehmood Wattoo briefed the audience about BISP.
