At least 17 people including women and children were killed and several others suffered with burn wounds when a petrol pump caught fire after unknown gunmen opened fire at a van at a filling station on Friday.
Due to firing all of a sudden massive inferno erupted from the drums filled with petrol and diesel at the filling station. The fire also engulfed the passenger vehicles at the petrol pump.
As a result of firing and ablaze 17 people including five women, two children, passengers and employees of the filling station was were burnt to death while six others suffered with burn wounds. Four shops were also gutted due to fire.
The bodies and injured were shifted to local hospital for medico- legal requirements.
So far, no militant organisation has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Balochistan bordering Iran and Afghanistan, suffers from a local separatist insurgency. Apart from a long-running nationalist movement, there has also been an alarming rise in sectarian terrorism in the province recently, with ethnic and religious minorities often targeted by militants.
