Japan offers to support Thar coal power project

ISLAMABAD - Japan has offered to support Thar coal power project and construct a transmission line to interlink it (the project) with the national grid.

The offer came at a meeting between Japanese Ambassador to Pakistan Hiroshi OE and Federal Minister for Water and Power Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar here on Thursday.
Hiroshi OE also offered to invest in Mangla Dam power extension project, saying Japanese companies were interested in putting their capital in various projects in Pakistan. He assured that Japan would continue its financial and technical support for Pakistan’s social sector development.
The envoy observed that investment environment was better in Pakistan, and appreciated the current recovery drive of the Ministry of Water and Power, which, according to him, would help increase the cash flow for power generation.
Mukhtar, while welcoming the envoy, appreciated Japanese offers, and said the government was taking all-out measures for the generation of cheap electricity. He said that indigenous resources were being utilsed for future projects to generate energy at affordable prices.
He said that a wind power project would start generation within the next couple of month, while other wind projects would be completed by the next year. Mukhtar asked the Japanese envoy to invest in the wind, solar and other hydel power projects.  The envoy and the minister also discussed the current political situation and other matters of mutual interest.
