NEW YORK - Scores of Kashmiris staged a demo in front of the UN building on Monday as Indian External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna addressed the 67th session of the UN General Assembly.Azad Jammu and Kashmir President Sardar Muhammad Yaqoob Khan led the rally, at which he declared that Kashmiris will not compromise on their basic right for the exercise of right of self-determination.“We will press on with our struggle until we attain freedom.”The demonstration was sponsored by the Washington-based Kashmiri-American Council.President Yaqoob Khan especially called for the release of jailed Executive Director, Ghulam Nabi Fai, while lauding his services for the Kashmir cause. The demonstrators raised vociferous slogans urging the international community to raise its voice against human rights abuses by Indian security forces in Held Kashmir.They also called for an end to the atrocities being committed by Indian occupation forces in Held Kashmir.Among those who addressed the gathering were Sardar Sawar Khan and Sardar Mushtaq Ali. They urged the UN to implement its resolutions and to bring an end to the repression of Kashmiri people.Sardar Yaqoob Khan paid rich tributes to President Asif Ali Zardari and Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar for effectively projecting the Kashmir issue before the international community. The rally adopted two separate resolutions, moved by Sardar Sawar Khan, calling on US President Barack Obama and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki moon to appoint their respective special representatives to help resolve the Kashmir dispute.A memorandum was also submitted to Ban.
