BAHAWALPUR - Punjab Governor Sardar Latif Khosa has said that the educational system must produce such manpower which may be able to create jobs for thousands other youth instead of seeking jobs for themselves. He remarked this during his visit to the Islamia University Bahawalpur here the other day.
Our religion also descended with the word "Iqra" (Read) and our progress entirely depends on the achievement of knowledge. The Punjab governor said that he was very much delighted to visit one of Asia's greatest institutions, IUB and observe its academic development very closely with the contentment that the IUB had been moving gradually towards its destiny. The governor also exchanged views with students, faculty and media on the eve of the launch of Online admissions at the main auditorium of Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus of IUB. He lauded the success of the university, achieved in various departments in a very short time under the dynamic leadership of Dr Muhammad Mukhtar and declared it a precedence for other universities. He said that the actual objective of every university was research and development and this is the sector, which can be promoted for the renaissance of Islamic glorious past and rule the world, as our forefathers did. A purposeful educational system can eliminate our recent subordination and we can achieve the destiny of self-reliance. Allah the Almighty has blessed us with His unbounded bounties, now the need of the hour is to display unity, faith and discipline and assemble under one flag, similar to Quaid-e-azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, who established a great Islamic state by materializing the dream of Allama Muhammad Iqbal. Afterwards Quaid-e-Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto followed his footsteps and not only gave stability to Pakistan but also made the defense of the country invincible. Similarly Martyr of Democracy, Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto also irrigated the roots of democracy with the sacrifice of her blood and gave it strength. He advised the teachers to encourage the creative potential of the students and pay attention to their charter building, so that the country may be blessed with dynamic leadership.
Earlier, IUB Vice Chancellor Dr Muhammad Mukhtar in his address said that Jamia Islamia was established on the pattern of world renowned Jamia Al Azhar and later on the first ever elected Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto conferred the status of a chartered university to this great seat of learning. At present this is the only university of Southern Punjab where more than 16,000 students are seeking education from Bachelor to PhD level. The VC apprised the distinguished guest about the findings of a research conducted by UNESCO recently and said that according to the report Seraiki speaking children have been displaying excellent performance in all disciplines along with Science and Technology. He added that at present education is being provided in 78 disciplines, while the colleges of Art, Engineering, Agriculture and Veterinary are also extending professional education. Recently, a Rangers Campus has been established with the collaboration of Punjab Rangers which is an exclusive precedence. In the same way in Southern Punjab the exclusive weekend programme, one of its kind, has been launched and an Institute of Distance Education has also been established. The IUB desires to initiate the mobile schools in Cholistan with the co-operation of government to embellish the students of the far flung areas with the sparkle of education. Dr Mukhtar pointed towards the proposed project of a Medical College and said that such an institution is direly needed in the country where research may be carried out on Dengue and other viral diseases and a vaccine for the treatment of these diseases may also be prepared. The Vice Chancellor mentioned the recent distinctions of the IUB and said that he got the exclusive honour of representing Asia in a World Presidential Conclave of Vice Chancellors in United states, Similarly IUB will host an International Engineering Congress in Islamabad in the coming year attracting more than 3000 delegates from all over the world. World Camel Conference will also be held in Bahawalpur, which will be an exclusive event of its nature to be organized in 2012-13. The IUB is also leading a Consortium of ten universities of the country for the promotion of art and social sciences. Recently the IUB students put up a memorable cultural performance in the Prime Minister's Sports Festival in Islamabad. On this occasion, Governor Punjab inaugurated the first ever online admission system among the public sector universities. Later on, Governor Punjab accompanied by the VC visited UCET and opened a "Rose Corner" in the recreational park established in the agricultural farm. The breeding center of local animals and birds, fish pond and Chinkara deer have also been set up in this part. Senior Leader of Pakistan People's Party and Opposition leader of Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz, Political Advisor to Governor Tanveer Butt, MPAs - Shah Rukh Malik, Nawazish Ali Pirzada, DCO, DPO and a large number of faculty and students were also present on this occasion.
In the evening Governor Latif Khosa, offered the Taraweeh prayers in the Masjid of the Residential colony at Baghdad-ul-Jadeed Campus. The faculty, students and employees expressed delight by finding the Chancellor amongst them. The Governor advised the Imam Masjid to narrate the Urdu translation of the recited portion of the Holy Quran, so that the public may get help in understanding the divine religion and its teachings. He also advised the Vice Chancellor to start this practice of presenting translation after the Namaz-e-Taraweeh in all the Masjids at various campuses.
