ISLAMABAD - Judicial Commission of Pakistan Saturday approved the names of seven additional judges for the Sindh High Court (SHC).

Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry chaired a meeting of the commission decide on the matter. The sources said that out of ten names initiated by the SHC chief justice, three were dropped due to different reasons.
However, three lower courts judges and four lawyers were recommended for the position of SHC judges, they added.
The seven judges whose manes were approved are: Aftab Ahmad, Habibur Rehman Sheikh, Sallahudin, Riazat Ali, Azizur Rehman, Farooq Channa and Farooq Shah.
The sources also revealed that during the meeting, Attorney General for Pakistan Irfan Qadir and Pakistan Bar Council (PBC) representative Dr Khalid Ranjha presented the PBC executive body’s May 25 resolution, in which apex bar has sought amendments to JCP (Judicial Commission of Pakistan) rules and share minutes of the JCP meetings to ensure transparency in the appointment of judges.
“It has been decided that that issue would be discussed in the council meeting of the JCP”, the sources added.
On June 2, the PBC executive body unanimously passed a resolution demanding that the commission’s other members should be authorised to suggest the name of judges before the JCP.
