PML-N rejects back-channel talks with PPP

ISLAMABAD – PML-N has rejected back channel efforts of the ruling PPP seeking cooperation of the main Opposition party for the disposal of selective legislative agenda ahead of dissolution of the National and Provincial Assemblies for general elections.

Sources privy to the development told TheNation on Friday that PML-N leadership has discouraged back channel links which the ruling PPP sought to open with the leadership of the main Opposition party for what the sources described as greater political cooperation.
They said that leadership of the PML-N has decided in principle that it would not hold talks with the PPP-led ruling alliance on any issue other than the general elections and modalities relating to establishment of caretaker set up.
“We cannot think of even for a moment about discussing any issue with the PPP other than the general elections”, a PML-N leader said, adding, his party has adopted a principled stand to oppose the proposed draft bill on National Accountability Commission (NAC) for which the PPP leadership wants us to support. He said that until and unless the government evolves a consensus on the proposed bill, PML-N couldn’t support it in the given shape.
