ISLAMABAD - The Supreme Court on Friday stopped Rs24 billion funds of 732 unapproved Public Sector Development Programmes (PSDP) in Balochistan.
The court has also asked the provincial government to form an independent commission for the forensic audit of all PSDPs, which were completed during the last four years. A two-member bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, heard the petition filed by Abdul Rahim a leader of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party.
During the hearing, Balochistan Advocate General Amanullah Kunrani told the court that the provincial government had issued a notification regarding the formation of a three-member commission to probe the alleged corruption in development projects, completed by the previous government. Counsel for petitioner, Shakeel Ahmad, objected the impartiality of the two members of the commission.
Acknowledging the petitioner’s objection, the court asked the provincial government to revise the notification for forming an impartial commission.
Hearing of the case was adjourned for four weeks.
