PESHAWAR - The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, which will meet today (Monday), is likely to pass a resolution against Nato supplies to Afghanistan via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The resolution is being passed in protest to respond to the US drone attacks on FATA and particularly the last one strike in which Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) head Hakimullah Mehsud was killed and visibly an attempt to derail the proposed peace talks between government and banned TTP. The KPK governor has summoned the assembly, which will meet at 4pm. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is strongly demanding holding talks with TTP, is governing the KPK province while Qaumi Watan Party, Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamhori Mahaz, are its allied partners in the government. PTI Chief Imram Khan has already said that his party would table a resolution to block NATO supplies. Sources in the PTI said that before tabling the resolution, the allied and opposition parties would be taken into confidence.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Spokesman MPA Ishtiaq Urmar has said that come what may, PTI provincial government will not budge an inch from its stance to stop Nato supply to Afghanistan as it is the desire of whole nation. “After the passage of a resolution against Nato supplies via Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the provincial government will stop the supplies,” he said this while talking to media persons here on Sunday. He said that come what may, we would block the NATO supplies. “We will show you that it is the aspiration of whole nation to block supplies to Nato forces in Afghanistan. He said that stopping of Nato supply would be legal as Peshawar High Court’s decision in this regard is on record.
“More than 80 per cent of Nato supplies to Afghanistan pass on through Pakistan’s Chaman and Torkham borders,” he added. The PTI KPK spokesman said that killing of TTP Chief Hakimullah Mehsud was an attempt to sabotage government’s peace efforts. He said that time has come to get united for the sovereignty of Pakistan, which has been passing through critical times since long. He said that PTI has always talked about peace talks.
