Ephedrine scandal: ANF freezes 22 bank accounts of Shahabuddin

The Anti-Narcotics Force (ANF) froze 22 bank accounts of former health minister Makhdoom Shahabuddin on Thursday and directed the bank managers not to let the former minister withdraw any money from the accounts in ephedrine quota scam. According to ANF, the money deposited in the 22 bank accounts was earned illegally by Shahabuddin by allotting quotas of ephedrine.

The bank officials, complying with the orders of ANF have stopped transactions for the former minister. Challenging ANF’s decision to freeze his accounts, Shahabuddin filed a petition in the Rawalpindi bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC), maintaining that the ANF cannot seize his accounts and that they should be activated. Admitting his plea, the court issued notices to the ANF, seeking a reply by October 10.
