LAKKI MARWAT – Tensions erupted among the elders of Lakki Marwat, Abakhel and
Dallokhel villages over damages to the properties of the residents of urban locality during a violent protest demonstration against power loadshedding ended on Saturday.
The residents of Abakhel and Dallokhel had held a protest demonstration against power outages in Lakki city on July 31 wherein some protesters ransacked and torched the office of Pesco Lakki sub division and damaged electricity and gas metres.
The notables of Lakki city took a serious notice of damages and banned the entry of JUI-F district chief Maulana Abdul Rahim and former nazim Johar Muhammad, who had led the demonstration, in Lakki city.
They also asked the residents of both villages to stop their business in the urban locality. Realising that the heightened tension between both sides could lead to a confrontation between the villagers and residents of urban locality the elders agreed to resolve the matter amicably. They held a reconciliatory jirga in Eidgah at Lakki city.
Speaking at the jirga meeting Maulana Abdul Rahim expressed his sorrow over the losses and said that the elders of both villages wanted to shun differences and bring an end to misunderstandings between both sides.
He told that ransacking and damaging of properties was done by some youngsters without the connivance of elders.
Akhtar Munir and MPA Munawar Khan said on the occasion that the request for reconciliation by the elders of Abakhel and Dallokhel was acceptable to the elders and residents of Lakki city.
They told that the elders from both sides should work for promoting peace and tranquility among tribes and clans.
They added that the elders should strive hard to avert happening of such incidents in future.
