VEHARI - The district government's idea of 'Sasta Ramazan Bazaar' failed to provide relief to masses in the city, as the prices of daily-use items have no visible difference as compared to the open market rates.
In open market sugar is available at Rs52 per kg and at Ramazan bazaar its price is Rs51 per kg. As like this all the commodities are selling on this ratio.
It was also observed that the bazaar was setup by its own, as the administration has no role in either to check prices, hold security, or make other necessary arrangements for buyers. In the survey it was observed that most of the people were complaining of substandard food items at Sasta Bazaar, whereas the USC subsidized shops have insufficient stock of sugar and flour.
It was observed that most of the outlets were facing acute shortage of sugar and gram flour etc which has common usage in Ramazan. The other commodities at these bazaars also did not have any countable difference with the prices in open market. People were mostly visited to get sugar and flour on subsidized prices, but returned disappointed, as the inability of the Utility stores' management to maintain sufficient supply all the outlets. Sources told that these bazaars set up by the two traders groups of the city who had chronic grievance with each other.
City Trader Union Chairman Ch Muhammad Sarwar said that traders and administration were acting like a jugglers in Ramazan bazaars there was no relief but competition of political parties. He said that near to expiry daily-use items were selling in Ramazan bazaar.
He disclosed that the district administration made fake visits in Ramazan bazaars. If district administration really wants to provide relief to the common man then administration should eliminate the monopoly of political parties and make sure the stability of demand and supplies, he added.
