CJ scolds Aitzaz Ahsan in LPG quota case

February 05, 2013

ISLAMABAD –Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry Monday expressed displeasure over Aitzaz Ahsan’s plea in which he sought reformation of the bench during the hearing of the LPG quota case.  "Judges have taken the oath of treating everyone according to law. It will make no difference whether you appear before us or not. Three judges are hearing the case not one,” the CJ remarked.
Aitzaz Ahsan said: "It is the best principle that one should not appear before a judge whose cause he had contested.” The chief justice said if the bench was reconstituted, everyone would insist on forming the bench of his choice. This case is being heard for four years and if you say, I will not proceed, Aitzaz said.
The court said:“You proceed or not, the decision will be according to the law.” The hearing was adjourned until February 14.
