Sugarcane growers rally against non-payment

TOBA TEK SINGH - Hundreds of sugarcane growers took out a rally against non-payment of dues by the owners of a local sugar mills at Thana Chowk, Kamalia here on Monday. MNA Riaz Fatyana led the protest.
The protesters were chanting slogans against the government and sugar mills management. They condemned the Irrigation Department for not supplying required water to the canals area. They also protest against the unscheduled loadshedding which has crippled the routine life of people.
While addressing the protesters, MNA Riaz Fatyana disclosed that the Kamalia Sugar Mills management had accepted the demand and agreed to give the payment to the farmers. He added that the mills administration would clear all dues of the sugarcane growers from June 15 to August 15. He also demanded the PPP government to end loadshedding as it had hit the poor and rendered workers’ jobless. He condemned the Irrigation Department for not supplying required water to the area canals.
PML-Q local leader Tariq Mahmood, former UC nazims Rashid Gujjar and Mehr Rafiq Mumbar also addressed the gathering. The road users had to suffer a lot for many hours due to block of the chowk.
