University employees protest against non-payment of salaries

QUETTA - Dozens of employees of University of Balochistan (UoB) here on Monday staged a protest demo at the university against delay in payment of salaries as the varsity is once again confronted with a financial crunch.
Protesters carrying placards shouted slogans in support of their demands and warned that if their salaries were not paid on time they would widen their protest. University of Balochistan is the oldest university in Quetta city in which 6,000  students are getting education in different faculties.
The number of teachers and other staffers is 1738 while Rs 80 million is monthly paid in the head of salaries and pensions while Rs 1 million is spent for utility bills and other daily expenditures.
Sources said that the authorities of UoB had sent budget to High Education Commission for ongoing financial year but HEC had made a cut of 50 per cent due to which the university is facing a deficit of Rs 280 million.
Talking to TheNation President Academic Staff Association Professor Kaleemullah Barech warned that if employees were not paid salaries they would come out on streets.
He said that if university was not immediately paid Rs 280 million it would face a serious financial crisis.
