PESHAWAR - The governments of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Iranian province Fars have agreed to KP Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hotis suggestion for constituting a joint working group for mutual cooperation between the two provinces in hydropower, tourism, agriculture, trade and other sectors.
Members of the group will include representatives of government and chambers of commerce and industry from both sides.
The working group will prepare action plan for joint cooperation in selected sectors. Governor Fars, General Hussain Sadiq Abeden and Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Amir Haider Khan Hoti announced this during their addresses to the participants upon formal meeting between representative delegation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and industrialists, traders and investors under President Sheraz Chamber of Commerce on Thursday night.
Deputy Governor Fars Dr. Muhammad Zamanian, Iranian Consul General in Peshawar General Hasan Darvesh Wand and provincial authorities were also present on the occasion.
The CM said, We are confronting challenge of insurgency for the last few years for which government and people of the province have paid a huge price.
He said that terrorism and insurgency had badly affected business, trade and economic activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; however, our courageous and brave people were not hopeless and they have proved to move ahead in any sort of circumstances and face any challenge.
He said that this visit was mere beginning that will prove a milestone in future.
CM said that Allah has blessed with vast natural resources which can be utilized for bringing pleasant change in lives of our people.
He said that we need support and cooperation of Fars and Asfahan in realizing this commitment.
He threw detailed light on capacity and opportunities available in the province and said that vast opportunities existed in hydro power sector. He said that prospects of realizing these projects are bright and the provincial government was giving special attention to public and private investment in this connection.
He further added that resources of oil and gas were notably increased in past few years and we were interested in benefiting from experiences of Iran in this sector too.
He said that in spite of challenge, attractive and beautiful areas in the province can play vital role in promoting tourism.
He stressed joint efforts for promotion of tourism.
The CM said that his visit to Fars and Asfahan was aimed at benefiting from skills and experiences of Iranian brothers and a representative delegation of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chambers of Commerce will soon visit Fars and Asfahan that will share mutual opportunities in different sectors in this connection.
Later on questions session took place and traders, industrialists and investors of Sheraz asked queries about available opportunities in tourism, culture and industrial sectors in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
ACS Atta Ullah Khan, Secretary Industry Khalid Pervez, and Secretary Tourism Syed Jamal-ud-Din furnished detailed answers to their questions and invited Iranian investors to come forward and launch practical efforts in best interests of the people of both the countries.
Senior Provincial Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour, Provincial Information Minister Mian Iftekhar hussain, ACS Atta Ullah Khan, Secretary Industry Khalid Pervez, Secretary Tourism Syed Jamal-ud-Din and Principal Secretary to Chief Minister, Tariq Jamil and Iranian were also present on the occasion.
