CPNE groups get united; new office-bearers announced

LAHORE - The two groups of the Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) have decided to merge themselves into a single entity, settling all their differences after prolonged discussions.
A statement issued by the presidents of the two groups Khushnood Ali Khan and Athar Jamil said that a united CPNE has come into being as a result of the mediatory efforts made by Mr Hameed Haroon.
Mr Jamil Athar and Mian Amer Mehmood are the president and secretary general, respectively, of the united CPNE.
Ilyas Shakir is the senior vice-president; Rehmat Ali Razi, vice president (Punjab); Tanveer Qaiser, vice-president, Islamabad; Tahir Farooq, vice-president, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; Dr Waqar Yousaf Azeemi, vice-president, Sindh; Waseem Ahmed, vice-president, Balochistan; Ghulam Nabi Chandio, joint secretary; Mushtaq Qureshi, finance secretary.
The annual general meeting of the CPNE will be held in November to discuss a code of conduct for journalists, press freedom, professional matters of journalists and the hazards they have to face while performing their duties.
