PESHAWAR - All is set to establish another district in Hazara division named Tanawal district, under which Tanoli tribe-dominated areas of Mansehra, Abbottabad and Haripur districts would become parts of the new setup. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Chief Minister, Ameer Haider Khan Hoti will make formal announcement of the new district on July 11, 2012. Having 24 districts till 2011, KPK, with the creation of two more districts in Hazara division alone - Torghar and Tanawal - will now have a total of 26 districts. To make formal announcement of the new district, KPK Chief Minister Ameer Haider Khan Hoti will address a public gathering at Shergarh, hometown of former five-time MNA and Nawab of Amb, Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed, the main supporter of Tanawal district. In the same gathering, Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed and MPA Habib-ur-Rehman Tanoli would also announce joining the ruling ANP. It would certainly give a boost to ANP, as it did not have any effective role in Hazara politics in the past. Talking to TheNation, Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed informed that all was set to create another district - Tanawal - which was a long-awaited demand of Tanoli tribe, presently living in Mansehra, Haripur and Abbottabad areas. Giving further details, he claimed that the new Tanawal district would comprise 27 union councils with approximately 1.5 million population and 1300 SqKm area. At present, Hazara division has six districts - Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Kohistan, Torgar and Batagram - and with the addition of Tanawal district, the total strength would reach seven districts. Nawabzada Salahuddin Saeed, a great-grandson of Nawab Khani Zaman of Amb, a former princely state, maintained that if Torgar could become a separate district with having less population and only 400 SqKm area size, why not Tanawal? “We want to give identity to Tanoli tribe by giving them their own district and their demand is now going to be fulfilled by the ANP.” When asked if creation of more districts in Hazara would be considered a part of the strategy to weaken Soba Hazara Movement (SHM), he dispelled this impression and made it clear that creation of Tanawal district had nothing to do with Hazara province movement. In the same breath, he said it was crystal clear that actually Tanolis wanted their identity.Replying to a query that how many tehisls the new district would have, he said they planned to give it at least five tehsils, however it would be decided later with the consent of the people of the new district. He said no common man, but actually certain so-called politicians were opposing the creation of new district, as they did not want to see Tanolis prosperous. Five union councils from lower Tanawal in district Haripur, he said, would be parts of the new district, adding that not only this but people from a few other union councils including Amazai had also contacted them to include them in Tanawal district.
