QUETTA - Gunmen abducted Balochistan MPA and leader of Awami National Party (ANP) Malik Sultan Tareen in Kuchlak area on Tuesday.Deputy Commissioner Pishin Hasim Gilzai, confirming the incident, said Sultan Tareen, former provincial minister for prisons, was on way from Quetta to his native town Harnai in his official vehicle when armed men intercepted his vehicle at Ziarat Cross of Kuchlak. “Assailants were attired in Frontier Corps (FC) uniform and held minister and his companions hostage at gunpoint and abducted them. They also took away the vehicle,” he added.Kidnappers, however, later set free guard and driver of the MPA before escaping to undisclosed location.Sher Muhammad Tareen, brother of Sultan Tareen, told media persons that his brother and guard Shamsuddin were abducted in wee hours of Tuesday. But kidnappers, later, released guard and driver and took his brother with them. He said over two dozen armed men in four vehicles abducted Sultan. “We have no enmity with anybody rather we are the followers of Bacha Khan and observing his policy of non-violence,” he added.Central leader of ANP Haji Adil claimed that abductors after kidnapping Sultan brought him to Quetta and revolved him around the city in a vehicle entire night. “The abductors are demanding Rs 500 million ransom,” he claimed.Dozens of activists of ANP held protest demonstration and burnt tyres on the roads in Harnai town to condemn the abduction of ANP leader and demanded his early recovery.A complete shutter-down strike was also observed in Harnai against the incident.When contacted Balochistan Home Secretary Captain (R) Akbar Hussain Durrani said relatives of Sultan had got registered a case of his abduction and a man, Wakeel Kayal, a resident of Sharag area had been nominated as accused in the FIR. He said as per Tareen’s relatives accused Wakeel had twice tried to abduct Sultan. “A committee headed by Commissioner Quetta has been formed for recovery of Mr Sultan and where his relatives will suggest, raids will be carried out,” he added. Earlier, Prosecutor General Balochistan, Abdul Wasay Tareen, went missing while traveling to Islamabad from Zhob district on Feb 28th in connection with hearing of cases in Supreme Court of Pakistan and still his whereabouts are not known.
