ISLAMABAD - Prime Minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf will visit India on Saturday primarily to pray at the shrine of Hazrat Khawaja Gharib Nawaz in Ajmer.
An official of the Prime Minister’s Secretariat did not rule out PM’s meeting with political leaders in India. However, he made it clear that it is purely a private visit mainly aimed at visiting the shrine in Rajasthan.
Agencies add: Hindhu extremist organisation Shiv Sena strongly opposed the upcoming private visit of Pakistani prime minister to India, saying he should be allowed here only if he gets the severed head of the Indian soldier allegedly killed on the Line of Control in January.
The government “should not roll out the red carpet for the Pakistani prime minister till he gets back the severed head of the Indian soldier killed on the LoC,” senior Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut said in New Delhi.
He said all political parties should oppose the visit of Pervaiz Ashraf to India.
Confirming the visit, an Indian official, on condition of anonymity, said “Pakistan’s prime minister will be in India on Saturday. This is a private visit and he will be accompanied by his family and other officials.”
“He is not expected to meet any Indian political leaders. This is clearly a religious and spiritual trip,” he told AFP. Ashraf will be the most senior Pakistani to visit India since last April when President Asif Ali Zardari embarked on a similar pilgrimage.
and then had lunch with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
