BNP raps Malik over Balochistan remarks

QUETTA - Rejecting Interior Minister Rehman Malik’s remarks about foreign hand in Balochistan unrest, BNP-M acting president Dr Jahanzaib Jamaldini said on Monday Malik was trying to portray the Balochs as terrorists before the world, particularly the United Nations (UN) fact-finding committee on missing people expected to visit Balochistan soon.
Addressing a press conference at the Press Club on Monday, he said that Malik was plotting against the Baloch indigenous struggle and its leaders to hide his government failure. “Malik should make public evidence of training camps of Balochs in Afghanistan or other foreign support, if he has any,” he added.
He denied any negotiation was underway between BNP chief Akhtar Mengal and Malik and termed it a conspiracy to cover the atrocities on Balochs and mislead the world, particularly the UN. Condemning the search operation in Quetta, he said operation against Balochs was still underway and the recovery of bullet-riddled dead bodies of missing Balochs could not be stopped. “Balochistan is passing through the worst period of its history when the recovery of decomposed bodies, kidnapping for ransom and violation of human rights by the security forces surge unprecedentedly,” he added.
Referring to dialogue to resolve the issue of Balochistan, the BNP leader demanded the alleged military operation be stopped, missing people be recovered, elements involved in kill-and-dump incidents be unmasked, forced disappearances be ended.
“After taking these steps, there should be dialogue in the presence of UN observers, since the rulers are not trustworthy” he added. Responding to a question, Jamaldini said the committee headed by federal minister Naveed Qamar on the Balochistan issue was not trustworthy because those people who had formed this committee were powerless.
